Here’s a Seth Thomas oak kitchen clock I repaired recently. It has an 8-day time and strike movement, and is dated 2981G (July 1892) on the back. The paper dial is a replacement.
Repair job 8788. The movement is the “hip” type, called that because of its shape.
I tightened the click rivets, tightened the mainwheel hubs, polished the pivots and installed 15 bushings.
The strong mainspring had caused wear to the mainwheel teeth. The original mainsprings were:
Time: 11/16 by 0.0188 inches
Strike: 11/16 by 0.0185 inches
The new mainsprings are MS-298, 11/16 by 0.015 by 108 inches.
